Make Better Choices Thanks To This HVAC Advice

You may think anything dealing with HVAC is complex. This is due to the technical nature of these things.

If problems arise with the HVAC system, do a tour of your house before you call in help. This information will help the repairman determine where the problem is.

Clean your fan and coils come spring. Clean off any leaves or debris from your external condenser unit regularly.

By the end of spring, the fan blades and coils of your condenser should be thoroughly cleaned, so operation can proceed with greater efficiency. Except when you do superficial cleaning, you need to always make sure the power is off on the unit. Remove leaves and debris from the condenser outside.

Clean the debris on an external condenser unit. You don't know when things are going to pile up, especially after a windy or rainy storm, and that can throw a wrench in your system. It can cause it to overheat.

Turn it off so nothing moves. Then, pop off its grills, pull the blades out, and gently clean them as well as the unit itself.

Lubricate the oil ports on your condenser at least once a year. You will see rubber or metal caps. Use SAE 20 oil that is non-detergent and lightweight, detergent-free SAE 20 oil, putting 10 drops in each port.

Don't let your outdoor HVAC units get smothered with clippings anytime you mow the yard. Instead, make sure that the grass is shooting in the opposite direction. Be just as mindful when you blow leaves to not blow them toward your HVAC equipment.

Put outdoor condensers in places with shade.

It is always a good idea to swap out single pane windows with ones that have double panes. This also helps keep it warm air in the winter.

A programmable thermostat can help save money on air conditioning costs. Some programmable thermostats can even be controlled from your smart phone or other device.

Many homeowners forget to oil their condenser at least once per year, but it is required. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. Use a lightweight oil and do not overfill them.

Don't let your house get too hot to where it's dangerous. Air conditioners really can only cool a home by just twenty degrees Fahrenheit within a reasonable amount of time. If your home become 100F or more, you would only be able to cool it down just above 80 degrees. This won't be a safe and comfortable temperature for you to sleep in.

Look for air conditioner sizing calculators online to truly understand what size of unit you need for your home. Look at the manual or on the manufacturer website for this information.

Companies that are well established have a better record than those that haven't been. It is riskier to hire a long history.

When selecting the spot to put the outdoor compressor for your unit, choose somewhere that gets plenty of shade. The cooler the air which goes in, the less work the unit will have to do.

Ask around so you are looking for a HVAC contractor. People who've had great service are usually willing to tell of their contractor. This is also a great way to get names of those companies that you should avoid.

Contractors charge different rates, so make sure you get quotes from several contractors before you make any hiring decision. You can save tons of cash simply by asking for many quotes. You may want to call at least a handful of contractors to determine what you should be paying.

Make sure that you are familiar with your HVAC at all times. It can be hard to get going without motivation, so take all of this information into account as you get started. You'll feel great when you notice things clicking for you!
